Here is my story of how I fell in love with web development. It started in my first semester in school enrolled in my first ever web development class; I was new at that time and did not know squat. This class captivated me because it showed me the possibilities that I could create literally with a touch of my fingertips. It opened my eyes to the world of software and the endless possibilities that I could create.
Fast-forward to my second year, I joined the Information Technology Club where it was an exciting time for me and an experience I wouldn’t forget. In the club, we were mainly responsible for hosting LAN parties, the parties where gamers gather together to play side-by-side; yeah, kind of old school and un-speak of nowadays. I was thrilled and wanted to help the gaming community come together as well as enjoy an experience they would never forget. When I heard that the club needed help promoting these LAN parties, I jumped on board thrilled that I could use the design and development skills I’ve been honing.
I took it as an opportunity to dive deeper and to learn how to build websites from scratch. My work consisted of creating website designs using Photoshop where I would later develop them with web development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. My goal each year would be to make them increasingly better and challenge myself to learn more about web development and design. You can check them out here.
At the time, I had no idea that creating those websites all those years ago would become the foundation and the heart of why I continue to do so now. I am thankful for the experience and the people that I worked alongside building them. It was memorable and a true turning point of why I continue to pursue and learn as much as I can. Even though I know I have a lot to learn I’m grateful for how I started and I won’t forget why I build them today. “To happily build a healthier future.”
